Don’t go crazy on holiday spending

Parents often feel the need either to one-up the other parent or to compensate the children for what they’ve been through in the past year. That’s a bad practice because: (1) it puts a dent in already crimped budgets; (2) it teaches the kids that bad experiences always get remunerated; (3) the kids can figure out that they are being bought.
