How do parents sometimes contribute to their teens’ anxiety?
The most mature person in the house should not be the 11-year-old. Parents need to grow up and not transfer their anxiety. Assemble a support structure that meets your needs without any help from your children. Don’t make your kids take on adult issues. Delineating in your agreement all parental responsibilities—including caring for the parents’ own emotions—will keep a child from having to pick up adults’ slack.
