Transitioning from married to divorced life, Part 2
Rewrite (or write for the first time) your last will and testament. Every person should have a will as soon as they turn 18 or become a parent, whichever comes first. Wills protect every aspect of life, not just finances. You can revise your will with an amendment, called a codicil, or you can write a whole new will. Even if you change no beneficiaries in your will, you should update it simply to acknowledge that you’re now divorced and are preserving the status quo anyway. Your divorce agreement should address your current will and what you would like your divorce to change, if anything, about your existing will.
