Do both spouses need to maintain a good credit score?

Neither one of you can lean on the other as a lifelong crutch. Your kids deserve better than to know that their only parent who could borrow money is either divorced or six feet under. One client had such a tight rein on the family’s finances that the husband made all the purchases and the wife couldn’t even touch the checkbook to pay the electric bill. Aside from being oppressive, there was a practical problem, because she had no credit history when she got divorced.
