Post-divorce life, Part 5

Acquire the skills to do the things your spouse used to do for you. Model to your children that either gender can do anything the other can do. Don’t hold it against Dad that he hasn’t cooked dinner over presided over the nightly struggle known as homework, any more than you’d fault Mom for not being skilled with the lawnmower. Both spouses have to learn to wear new hats. It’s even permissible to put clauses in your divorce agreement that explain how and when you will acquire those skills and whether the other spouse will teach you.
