How can you put divorce in the appropriate perspective?

Divorce ends a legal relationship; it’s not a magic wand that makes a family go away. Divorce has become a catastrophe only because people insist on making it that way. While it may be easy for you to fill out some paperwork and get a divorce, your children will never get new parents, so your agreement has to protect their relationships with both parents. The best divorce agreements emphasize relationships rather than transactions. A divorce is never an arm’s-length business relationship.
