Child self-esteem and divorce, Part 1

Be aware of societal expectations about divorce and how those self-fulfilling prophecies they affect your children. If you expect a divorce to ruin your family, it will. If you expect a divorce to end a marriage but not a family, you’ll carry on even though you aren’t spouses. Put in your agreement what you’ll tell the kids about divorce. Your kids trusted you when you said there were no monsters under the bed. They heeded your warning not to run with scissors. And they’ll take your word for it when you assure them that they’ll be OK after the divorce. Note in your divorce agreement what you will tell your kids about divorce, especially with respect to what they may already think about divorce.
