Agree in advance with your ex-spouse on how much money you will each spend on the children’s holiday gifts.
The custodial parent is often far less able to afford extravagant gifts than the non-custodial parent is. Fixing a dollar amount beforehand will prevent your kids from saying, “Hey, Mom, should I wait to put together the trampoline and new computer you gave me until after the Caribbean cruise you’re taking me on? And Dad, thanks for the Slinky.”
